ESPN: ‘It’s a great job’ for Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, Spoel and the Heat’s players
Erik Spoell is back in the Miami Heat organization, after three years in Boston.
But the coach and players have a lot to celebrate with a team that is in position to clinch its second straight title.
Here are three things to know about Erik Spoelman and the Miami HEAT:1.
Erik Spoelso is back with the Miami Marlins.
The Heat’s coach is back at the helm after his tenure ended with a playoff berth in the 2017 NBA Finals.
The Heat are 8-1 this season after going 2-6 the year before.
But they are 1-9 this season in the playoffs.
Miami’s front office was thrilled when Spoel came back.
The Marlins won the American League East by a single game in 2017.
The club has been without a winning record since April 30.
Spoel will likely have to re-tool this group.
The Marlins won a record four games in a row after being eliminated in the division series in Philadelphia.
Miami will also have to find its defensive identity, which is something Spoel struggled with for much of his career.
Miami is tied for the league’s worst defensive rating at 101.0 points per 100 possessions, according to Synergy Sports Technology.
Miami has been playing some of its best ball in a couple of weeks, but Spoel said that his team is in a “very good” defensive shape.
The Dolphins are averaging 95.0 possessions in the second half, which ranks third in the league.
Spoelsos team has been outscored by an average of 7.0 offensive rebounds per game.
The Miami Heat’s bench is averaging 2.5 points per game, which ranked second in the NBA behind Golden State.
The team is allowing a league-low 10.3 points per contest.
